Stacy thought Ephrata High School’s existing personal finance course was a great first step but didn’t believe that the instruction was as effective as it could be. She worked tirelessly with the school board in her effort to expand the personal finance class to a full semester. Among the biggest barriers was simply the number of hours in the day. Stacy and her department rearranged other instruction to create time in the schedule and demonstrated to the school board that such a change would not diminish any current instruction. She also
successfully advocated that the requirement be moved from the sophomore year to the junior year so it would be more relevant to students who are contemplating life after high school.

“Stacy continually seeks ways to improve her courses and their relevancy to the students. As a result of several years’ work, Stacy and her department have been able to convince the school board of the importance of personal finance.”
