Tim has worked tirelessly to bring financial education to students throughout the Hollidaysburg Area School District. Using materials and knowledge gained from the Institute and working with the Business Education Department, Tim was the driving force behind a new personal finance course that will be offered at the high school this coming school year. He even booked a performance of “Mad About Money” by the National Children’s Theater Group to generate excitement among students about the new offering! Tim also worked with a foundation and local businesses to secure funding to offer “Right on the Money” to second graders and their parents. The program, developed by the Office of Financial Education, Penn State Cooperative Extension and the Heinz Endowments, was such a success that it will be offered again this coming fall.
Not one to rest on his laurels, Tim is now working on a credit union branch for the high school, a return performance of “Mad About Money,” and enhancing the fourth grade financial education unit.
“Motivating young adults to address their financial future is very important, especially in today’s world. These money concepts need to start when we are young, and build as we grow older. Mr. Surkovich is committed to teaching our young adults the skills they need to understand and take control of their financial future.”
